Once I received a hand written note from a chapbook contest thanking me for my submission, but announcing that they found my tone cold and emotionless. Yes, I appreciated this honest feedback--in longhand, no less! Sure, maybe I took a hatchet to all of the articles or pronouns in my poems. But, boo, another rejection letter.
Then, anonymous-y online magazine > kill author ("for the mostly alive") kindly accepted some of my new, post-MFA poems.
Dorothy Parker is up next.
